It is this fact which explains the abundance of symbolism in the revelations. The book of Daniel is often called an Apocalyptic writing. It is indeed such, but it must be sharply distinguished from the later Jewish Apocalyptic writings. There is only one other Apocalypse which may be compared with it, and that is the New Testament book of Revelation.
